And see what they say. The other day Tyler told me that a girl in his class said the tooth fairy isn't real. I said, "What do you think?", and he said, "I think she's real". I still think Santa is real ;).....Bethhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05686519461321136843noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-974792835426558877.post-65843988824025761642011-11-30T14:02:04.961-08:002011-11-30T14:02:04.961-08:00We responded by telling our kids that he IS real. ...We responded by telling our kids that he IS real. I then told them the story of the real St. Nicholas - that he was a good man who gave things to help others. I explain that St. Nicholas died a long time ago, but that he still has helpers that continue the tradition of giving.

With one child, that was enough. He assumed that meant there were elves etc. still doing all the work. It wasn't until a year or two later that we finished the explanation, letting him know that we are St. Nicholas' helpers - and that once you know the whole story, you can become his helper if you want to.

Funny that my oldest responded by saying, "so what am I getting for Christmas." My response? "I am St. Nicholas (Santa)'s helper and I can't tell you. It's still a surprise for Christmas day." It was amazing that as soon as I said that, his excitement rose right back up.Wendyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09599912078704905243noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-974792835426558877.post-12739798702772029782011-11-30T13:39:54.701-08:002011-11-30T13:39:54.701-08:00Never tell.
