Reason for my visit - Happy Easter Grandma

My grandma has been in the hospital since Jan 26th, she was really sick back in Feb, sick enough that the doctors had the talk with my dad that at her age (94) if anything happened they would not try to resuscitate her, I almost came then but something held me back, I guess she wasn't conscious most of the time then. Recently I have been feeling that I should come and visit so Tues morning I got online, found a cheap fare and booked it to leave on Friday, and here I am. I am so glad I came, I have very fond memories of my paternal grandmother, I used to spend a week at her house each summer growing up and she would come to our house every Thursday. She has always been strong and up until January lived by herself in her own home, this has been a bad episode for her, she has lost a lot of weight and her energy is very low, its hard to see the change. It has been such a long way to come and I am only here for four days but its been worth it, I have so few family members left on this earth, my grandma, dad and 2 brothers, (no aunts, no uncles) that I feel its important to make the effort for. Hope your all having a great Easter weekend, the Brits get Friday and Monday off as "bank holidays" and most stores are closed Easter Sunday, its weird, I guess I am just so used to everything being open all of the time!

Easter traditions

Now you've read the disclaimer onto my actual post, Easter Traditions. Eric and I don't have too many traditions yet, not that we don't want them we just haven't found what works for us. What does everyone else do for Easter? It wasn't a huge thing in my house growing up, we'd get a big chocolate egg and I remember one year doing a treasure hunt to find the egg but it was no where as big as it is here, listening to what everyone else did for their kids for Easter I thought I'd get a little more festive and so two years ago I did Easter baskets but I felt totally ripped off, giving my girls a basket filled with gifts, how in the world does this symbolise Easter? lets not get me started on the whole bunny thing, I don't mean to be a scrooge but since when do rabbits lay eggs? how does this tie in with our Saviour being scourged and crucified? Needless to say I did the baskets once and realised it wasn't for me, and last year, nothing, this year however I think I may have found something that works for me, we are going to do a little Easter egg hunt but the eggs will not be left by an Easter bunny, they will simply be left by mummy and daddy. Growing up I always believed that the egg symbolized the stone that covered and was rolled away from the tomb the Saviour's body was laid in, (I can't actually find anything to back this up just that the egg symbolizes re-birth) that is why I can get behind the egg thing. Anyway, I found some cute stuff to put into the girls eggs, little nail polish, lip balm, lip gloss rings, money and of course some candy. I also labeled the eggs with K's and S's so one of them doesn't get two nail polishes and the other none. I put it all together tonight as I'm actually going to be gone this weekend and Eric is in charge of the hunt, I hope he gets some cute pictures, I'll keep you posted! Maybe I am just weird, what are your Easter traditions and do you care if there is actual significance behind them?

Finally an update....

My blog is getting quite depressing, no updates since January!! Plus I know its so out of date that it just overwhelms me, anyway, enough said, finally here is an update.

Kate turned 5!! Yipee, we went to Disneyland on her birthday and as a special birthday treat she got to get her face painted, and as our passes are blocked out on Sara's I figured this was pretty much her one and only chance to get hers done too, awesome or what? this was the first thing we did after entering the park so we got our money's worth (its not cheap BTW both faces $29.09) Kate even slept in hers. We ended the day at home with a tiger cake for the birthday girl.

On Friday we had a little party at the park, it was fun, the theme was tigers, I had a few tiger things for the kids to do and I took the jeep that was just donated to me, all the kids loved that, I'm surprised its still working. Fun party, I'm not the best at the party kinda stuff but I think the kids had a good time, at least Kate did and that's what really counts.

Wow, has it really been this long since I posted? not much going on but this is definitely blog worthy, see this little girl?

New Years Bargins

The new year has brought Sara a big girl bed, she finally climbed out of her crib in Nov and since then we've been checking out beds for her, nothing was really what we wanted or if it was it wasn't in the budget. Anyway, last weekend I made Eric and the girls head out to the Burbank mall to check out a little store called K-Studio (i think). The store is full of furniture this guy repaints in a shabby chic look and et voila he had the perfect twin bed and it can't get any better because it was only $150. So now my tiny little (but very long) Sara is cuddled up in her big girl bed.

Also I found these crocs rain boots on sale at crocs.com for only $14.99, when I placed my order it said they are doing some inventory thing until the 8th and so cannot ship anything until the 9th. Happy New Year

wow! time flies, HAPPY NEW YEAR. We had a fun holiday season, it was mostly pretty quiet but fun none-the-less. New Years Day we went on a 'hike' up solstice canyon, our first ever family hike and really the path was about 60% paved so it was more of a walk but we had a fun time and there is a pretty waterfall at the top. Wishing you all a memorable 2009, it will bring Eric and I our 10 year anniversary, see time really does fly!!

Its beginning to look a lot like Christmas...

Although Santa did go shopping today at Target and my little elf had a melt down for all to see over a bag of skittles, it was quite the spectacle and everyone was looking. After Target there wasn't enough time to go home and so the little elf and I hit the park for 20 minutes, after our time was up I grabbed my little elf and she cried a little as we left the park, there was a guy there that was leaving too and he look over at me and said "weren't you just over at target?"!
